Toyota Camry (XV70): Parking Brake System(w/ Electric Parking Brake System)
Precaution
PRECAUTION
NOTICE:
- If the battery is connected, the parking brake will operate when the electric parking brake switch assembly is pulled to the lock side even if the engine switch is off. Do not operate the electric parking brake switch assembly with the battery connected unless specified in the repair manual.
- To prevent the electric parking brake system from operating when the shift lever is moved, make sure that the shift-linked function is disabled.
- After the engine switch is turned off, the parking brake ECU assembly (brake actuator assembly) and parking brake actuator assembly will continue operating for 20 seconds. If a connector is disconnected during this period, a DTC may be stored.
- If any part is removed and installed, check for DTCs to make sure that the normal system code is output after all parts are installed.

- Replacing a part with a part which does not meet the same specifications may affect the performance of the brake system or lead to a hazardous situation. When replacing a part, always use a part with the same part number or equivalent.
- When servicing the brake system, keep the parts and areas around the parts clean.
- If the vehicle is equipped with a mobile communication system, make sure to read the related precautions in Introduction.

- When tilting the vehicle to perform work after parking the vehicle on a level surface, the braking force of the parking brake may not be sufficient. Make sure to pull the electric parking brake switch assembly to the lock side 2 times (2 lock operations).
- The electric parking brake system determines the amount of force used to operate the parking brake according to the tilt angle detected by the deceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly).
- When the parking brake indicator (red) is illuminated after the electric parking brake switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) has been pulled to the lock side, the maximum amount of braking force is applied if the electric parking brake switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) is pulled to the lock side one more time.

HINT:
Use the table below to help determine the cause of problem symptoms. If multiple suspected areas are listed, the potential causes of the symptoms are listed in order of probability in the "Suspected Area" column of the table. Check each symptom by checking the suspected areas in the order they are listed. Replace parts as necessary.

DESCRIPTION Vehicles, which are equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), detect the vehicle speed using the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) and speed sensor. The speed sensor monitors the wheel rotation speed and sends a signal to the skid control ECU. The skid control ECU converts the
